Criticism

" The based in the 40s of the 19th century plot has elements of Western, which are almost meaningless, however, given the metaphysical dimensions sought by the film. This corresponds dramaturgy and image design of the incomparably beautiful and strange landscape of New Mexico. "

The New York Times expressed little enthusiasm about the film, including " the very unindianische Waterston as Indians ," " quite well in their roles Insert the actor, but never make us forget the feeling of being quite out of place ." The deliberately limited to a few dialogues movie was but " in his silence just as oppressive as in the atmosphere thickened dialogue scenes ."
