History

The "old" EHC Neuwied ( 1980-2000 )

In the 1993/94 season, the club initially played in the big leagues before he was a year later due to a reform in the German Ice Hockey and the associated formation of the German Ice Hockey League, was allowed to compete in the new sub-prime 1st League North.

The 1995/96 season ended the team to third place in the 1st League North, but had to in the play-off compared with the EC Bad Tolz from the force as more first league South defeated. For the 1996/97 season the team has been strengthened in many positions, it earned 21 wins in the first preliminary round of 26 matches. In the Master round the Bears won 15 of 18 games and thus the championship title of the 1st League North. The subsequent play-offs in comparison with the clubs from the official name "Hacker -Pschorr League" bearing 1 League South EHC Neuwied also decided for himself and was thus master of the first league. Subsequently played Neuwied against the Ratingen Lions, the last player of the German Ice Hockey League, in two relegation matches for a place in the highest German league. Neuwied lost both games in some cases significantly, especially as the club already harbored no serious ambitions rise, mainly for economic reasons. In addition, the team in 1997 DEB League Cup, one today DEB - Pokal similar tournament, which was, however, resolved without the participation of DEL teams won. In the season 1997/98, the EHC defended despite a weak start to the season the champion in the 1st League North. In the ensuing Meisterrunde clashed with the best eight teams from the northern and southern group, which ended the Neuwieder in fourth place, which also meant a venue where the following play-off round. There, the bears as last year reached the final, where they had to compete with the EC Bad Nauheim. After the EHC had won their home game in the best-of -three series, required the team to defend their title victory in the away match in Bad Nauheim. After the end of regulation time the score was 5:5 there. After this result after extra time still had stock, the championship only decided in the shootout for the benefit of Neuwied bears.

For the 1998/99 season, the first league was renamed to Bundesliga, the EHC was reinforced during the DEL with some experienced players. After the title win in previous years, the expectations were high, a poor start to the season and considerable injury problems ensured, however, that the team was back in the relegation round after the first round. After disputes with the local press, the club president in late January announced his resignation, which additionally provided in the team environment for unrest. In the end, the Bears managed but just avoid relegation.

After unsatisfactory for the club pre-season, the EHC Neuwied should stand in front of a sporty new beginning in the 1999/00 season. The team was fundamentally changed and replaced by new players. From the previous year's team only seven players remained with the bears, who migrated coach Lubomir Pokovič was also replaced by Petteri Lehmussaari. Athletic started the EHC well this time in the season, but was the first time in November announced that the club was in financial difficulties. Despite a great fundraiser and a winning streak of the team that was constantly to January in the top four of the table EHC Neuwied had to file for bankruptcy on January 3.

SC middle Rhine - Neuwied ( 2000-2006 )

Two weeks after the EHC had requested the opening of the insolvency proceedings, the SC Middle Rhine (short SCM) was founded, whose official club name was extended by the addition of Neuwied in summer 2001. The SCM took over the operation of gambling the 2nd team of the EHC Neuwied and entered into his first season in the Regionalliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Hessen to. There Neuwied became an instant champion and reached the round of qualifying for promotion to the Oberliga Nord. Parallel was participating in the Regional NRW as a guest team, as the small number of teams would have allowed in Rheinland-Pfalz/Hessen no regular play mode. The promotion round was completed without loss of points and secured promotion to the Oberliga.

In his five-year league affiliation of the SCM could reach the playoffs three times, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals respectively. 2001/ 02 failed the bears in five games in the late runner ESV Kaufbeuren. A year later, defeated the SCM again to eventual runner-up, the Dresden Eislöwen in three games before the club in the season 2004/ 05 was eliminated in four games against the Blue Lions Leipzig.

The league team could be on qualifying for the championship round, where participation in the playoffs with tenth place was missed, athletic qualify for the premier league 2006/ 07 and would participate in this. However, the club could not come up with a stadium use agreement, which was a condition for license renewal. Hopes for the realization of a concept initially introduced to purchase the ice rink by the AWO were smashed early June 2006, as one of the requirements was rejected for the financing of the concept in the local city council in Neuwied. The basis for the association pledged financial support was thus not met, so that as a consequence of the board of the association on 12 June 2006 provided for insolvency and then resigned from his offices.

VFE Neuwied (2006/ 07)

The resignation of the board and the bankruptcy petition did not take any team for the SCM part in the 2006/07 season in the game mode. For the young and the 2 seniors team of SCM by the VFE Neuwied, the Association for the Promotion of Youth Hockey Neuwied eV was reported as the first seniors team for the game operation for the 2006/07 season. In the fourth division Regionalliga Hesse, the seniors team reached the fourth place in the first round and second place after the qualifying round of the Regional Hesse.

The "new" EHC Neuwied (since 2007)

On 1 April 2007, the newly established EHC Neuwied took over as planned, the teams of the VFE, who has worked on in his original role as patrons.

Unique curiosity in the Neuwied Hockey history is the fact that the 2nd team for two seasons played Hockey higher grade than the seniors team. This was because the seniors team EHC would normally have continued the schedule of the VFE Neuwied in the Regionalliga Hesse. Since the club's management of the re-established EHC, however, had decided for sporting reasons to play activities of the seniors team place in the country skating association of North Rhine -Westphalia as before perform Hesse, took over the 2nd team of the EHC the free space in the Regionalliga Hesse, while the seniors team in the sechstklassige division NRW was divided.

In the national league NRW Group A of the EHC reached in his first season after ten game days with nine victories in defeat the first place. Thus, the team played in the subsequent qualifying round of the League Association NRW 2008/2009 and finished there with nine wins and only one defeat also in first place, whereupon the bear rose up in the fifth division. The top two finishers of the two Association League qualifying rounds, Neuwied and Herford, finally played in a round-trip game the winner of the League Cup from Association. Here, the EHC Neuwied won the Association League Cup against the Herford EV and subsequently through the second leg victory against the EHC Zweibrücken also Rhineland -Palatinate Cup winner. In the 2008 Association League season, the EHC Neuwied took first place in the table with 36 points and was master of NRW Association league. The Bears had in 14 games suffered only two defeats and played in the regional qualifying round, the Regional Cup NRW since January 2009. In March 2009, the team managed just three games left in the season the second rise in a row and played from then on in the regional NRW. In addition, the second team on the same weekend won the championship in the Regionalliga Rhineland- Palatinate. After completion of the preliminary round the dike townspeople occupied the 11th place and played in sequence as a table next to last in the final again in the Regional Cup NRW, where they finished on the 2nd place, which at the same time to remain in the West Regional for the season 2010 / 11 meant.

In May 2010, the club received an offer in the 2010/11 season in the Oberliga West reformed to compete, but granted for financial reasons a rejection. Sporty the 2010/11 season was not very successful for the Bears, who finished fifth of seven places after the main round and were able to secure the league until the second play -down round against the second team from Iserlohn after the first round on RSC Darmstadt failed.

For the 2011/12 season we undertook with Bernd Arnold for a new coach. Come from Troisdorf, he brought a total of seven players to Neuwied. They reached after the second place in the main round of the West Regional in the promotion round to the Oberliga West the third place behind the Preussen Krefeld and the mosquitoes eating. Thus, the EHC Neuwied rose for the third time after 1993 and 2001 in the Oberliga on. In addition, the team won for the second time after 2008 in the club's history the Rhineland -Palatinate Cup after the Mainz Wolves were beaten twice clearly in the semifinals and was able to prevail in the finals against the EHC Zweibrücken.

The league season 2012/2013 was a sobering contrast to the EHC. At no time the team was competitive and the entire season was found in the basement table again. Also in the Oberliga West Cup 2012/2013 the team could convince her and so stood at the end of the season of relegation to the Regionalliga. The only positive aspect was the successful defense of the Rhineland -Palatinate Cup Final against the enemy Mainz wolves.

Despite a late squad compiling the 2013/2014 season was again successful for the Bears. During the regular season, the team coached by Arno Lörsch established in the top tier of Regional West, was there champion and qualified for the Oberliga West Cup. There, the EHC finished the regular round in 3rd place and secured the venue where the first play-off round. In the quarterfinals, the Bears met the Neuss EV and could the series by a 7-2 win home win decide for themselves. Against the Ratingen Ice Aliens the team finally eliminated in the semifinals. Sporty but qualifying for the return to the ice hockey league was still managed and EHC Neuwied versa so 2014/2015 back to the Oberliga.
