El Allassane Maïreyrey is a rural municipality in the Department Mayahi in Niger.

Other spellings of the name are Alassan Mareyrey, Alhassane Maïreyrey and El Alassan Maïreyrey.

Geography

El Allassane Maïreyrey lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Tarka in the north, Falenko in the northeast, Ourafane in the east, Issawane in the south, Mayahi the southwest, Tchaké in the west and Tagriss in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 38 administrative villages, 56 hamlets and twelve stock. The main town of the rural community is the administrative town of El Allassane Maïreyrey (also: Alassan Mareyrey ).

History

Before the arrival of the French at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century El Allassane Maïreyrey part of the independent state of Katsina. The French administration set up a military post in 1901, a place that has already been abandoned in 1903 in favor of Tessaoua again. The rural community of El Allassane Maïreyrey went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the northeastern part of the canton of Kanan - Bakaché.

Population

At the 2001 census, El Allassane Maïreyrey had 40 136 inhabitants. For the year 2010 54.218 inhabitants were calculated.
