Elbert N. Carvel

Elbert Nostrand Carvel ( born February 9, 1910 in Shelter Iceland, Long Iceland, New York; † 6 February 2005 in Laurel, Delaware ) was an American politician and 1949-1953 and 1961-1965 Governor of the State of Delaware.

Early years

Elbert Carvel attended until 1928, the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, where he learned the engineering. Then he studied until 1931 at the University of Baltimore Law. Finally, he finished his education with a study of the allocation and management at the Johns Hopkins University. He then worked for Valliant Fertilizer Company. Political rise

Elbert Carvel was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1944 he was chosen as the candidate with 51 % of the vote to the new Lieutenant Governor of Delaware. He was from 1945 to 1949 Deputy Governor Walter W. Bacon. Four years later he was nominated by his party as their candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. Governor of Delaware
