Ely [' i ː li] is a city in St. Louis County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It has around 3,700 inhabitants.

Geography

Ely is located in northeastern Minnesota. It is surrounded by the Superior National Forest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of ​​the city is 7.0 square kilometers. West of Ely is Lake Vermilion.

History

Ely received city rights in 1887. Was named after a native of Ohio businessman Arthur Ely.
