Emotions (Mariah Carey album)

Emotions ( Engl.: "Emotions " ) is the second studio album by American singer Mariah Carey. It was released by Columbia Records on September 17, 1991. On album Carey worked with various producers, including Walter Afanasieff, the only one who was already involved in the predecessor. In addition, she wrote and released the album with Robert Clivillés and David Cole of C C Music Factory and Carole King, with the latter she wrote a piece.

Formation

After the success of the first album to some critics asked whether Mariah Carey can repeat the success of the successor. Also, the question was whether she could deny international tours, given the difficulty of the song material. In December 1990, she began work on the second album. During the work it was also a confrontation with Ben Carey Margulies, with whom she had worked on the debut, they went their separate ways.

Criticism and success

The album received rather mixed reviews. It nevertheless debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. Although sales were lower than the debut, the album quadruple platinum reached by the Recording Industry Association of America. In Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, France, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom, it reached the top ten of their respective charts in Germany ranked 46th, the title track, while the lead single, became Carey's fifth number-one single in the U.S..

Awards

Carey received for the album one American Music Award for "Favorite Soul / R & B Female Artist ". She has also received two Billboard Music Awards for " Best Female Album Artist" and " Best Female Single". She was also nominated for two Grammy Awards, for " Producer of the Year " and " Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ", but they could not win. All three singles were 1993 BMI Awards.
