Esteban Arce Province

Esteban Arce (also: Esteban Arze ) is a province in the southern part of the Bolivian department of Cochabamba. She bears her name in honor of General Esteban Arce, who was involved in the early 19th century, instrumental in the Bolivian struggle for independence against the Spanish colonial power.

Location

The province is one of sixteen provinces in the department of Cochabamba. It is bordered to the west by the province Capinota, on the southwest by the Potosí Department in the south east of the province Mizque, on the east by the province Punata, in the north- east by the province of Germán Jordán, and in the north to the Chapare province and the province of Cercado.

Population

52.6 percent of the population speak Spanish, 97.3 percent Quechua, Aymara and 0.6 percent. (1992)

64.7 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 79.9 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

90.8 percent of the population are Catholics, 7.2 percent are Protestant (1992).

The Esteban Arce Province is divided into four municipios:

  • Municipio Arbieto - 9,438 inhabitants
  • Municipio Tarata - 8,715 inhabitants
