Evgeny Kissin

Yevgeny Kissin Igorewitsch (in Russian Евгений Игоревич Кисин, transl ISO 9:. Evgenij Igorevič Kisin; born October 10, 1971 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist with British nationality.

Life

Evgeny Kissin ( in the English literature usually Evgeny Kissin written on German CD releases also Yevgeny Kissin ) was born the son of a piano teacher and an engineer. At the age of two years and two months, he began to play the piano. At age six, he attended the Gnessin Institute in Moscow and took lessons with Anna Pavlovna Kantor. His debut as a soloist with orchestra, he was at the age of ten years with the orchestra of Ulyanovsk with Mozart's Piano Concerto K. 466; the age of eleven he gave his first solo concert with the piano concertos of Frédéric Chopin. This earned him a reputation as a child prodigy.

Kissin has received numerous awards, including in May 2001 an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music and in 2005 the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize. In the Easter Festival 1989 Kissin played under the baton of Herbert von Karajan, the b- minor Concerto by Tchaikovsky.

In 2006 he received the second time the Echo Klassik. In 2006 he won the Grammy in the category "Best Classical Solo Album " for his recording of the piano works of Russian composer Scriabin, Medtner and Stravinsky.

Conscious of his Jewish roots, he has so far been read in Yiddish poetry that he has mastered the language almost perfectly. From their poetry he recited publicly for the first time in 2002 at the Verbier Festival.

Evgeny Kissin is considered one of the greatest pianists of our time.
