Church Sant'Atanasio in Calpiogna

Faido ( German Pfaid (obsolete), Fait dialect ) is a municipality in the district Faido and the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is the capital of the homonymous district.

Geography

The community Faido included only the valley floor a few years ago. Meanwhile, however, have merged under the Piottino to Biaschina all municipalities in the middle Leventina.

History

Faido located in the Leventina Valley ( Leventina ) on the Ticino river. The town was first mentioned in 1171 as Faedo. 1639 had 255 inhabitants Faido, 1850 704, 1950 1173 and 2002 there were 1522 inhabitants.

The construction of the National Road N2 placed the township before a test, because the official project provided for an open lines between the village center and the hospital.
