Flag of Equatorial Guinea

The flag of Equatorial Guinea is a horizontal tricolor in the colors green, white and red, with inserted blue triangle on the left.

History

During the Spanish colonial period, only the flag of Spain was used. About its own flag, the colony or the Overseas Province possessed not.

The flag was originally introduced to the country's independence on 12 October 1968. Initially, there were no clear rules as to when the coat of arms had to be used in the flag, so there were also versions without coat of arms in the early years. During the dictatorship of Francisco Macías Nguema 1973-1979 the emblem was changed. It was a cock, a sword, several traditional African tools to work the fields and beside the motto of the country in a banner another banner with the word Trabajo (working ).
