Fluminense FC

The Fluminense Football Club, usually only briefly referenced as Fluminense, known in German-speaking countries as Fluminense Rio de Janeiro, is the oldest football club in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was founded on July 21, 1902 by the Anglo - Brazilian Oscar Cox.

To date, Fluminense is one of the most important football clubs in the country and won four national championships since then. Formation

Oscar Cox was the first who brought football to Rio. He previously played football during his studies in Switzerland and when he came back to Rio, he found some men who wanted to play with him this new, unknown sport again. After a few games in Rio and São Paulo, they decided to found itself a new club. Fluminense was founded on July 21, 1902 by Oscar Cox was the first football club in Rio de Janeiro.

The first game took place on October 19, 1902 held at the Paysandu Cricket Club against the Rio Football Club, where Fluminense won 8-0. In the first four Campeonato Carioca (Rio de Janeiro league) 1906-1909 Fluminense were each cup winners.

1911 Fluminense was champion again. This year, however, there was a major crisis within the club. After they could not agree on a new coach, leaving nine players the team. These nine major players decided to switch to Flamengo, that was just a rowing club at the time. With the creation of Flamengo's football department this year they founded perhaps the most important Brazilian football rivalry, namely the so-called Fla-Flu. The first Fla-Flu was held on July 7, 1912. Although aufliefen for Flamengo nine out of eleven players who have been with Fluminense 1911 Master ( for Fluminense only Oswaldo Gomes and James Calvert ), won Fluminense 3-2.

Fans

The fans tricolores, a reference to the three team colors call themselves red, white and green. One of the most famous songs is team A bencao, João de Deus ( Bless us, St. John of God), a song that was composed in honor of the Pope on his first visit to Brazil.
