Fontenotte

Fontenotte is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fontenotte is located on 365 m, 4 km north- west of Baume- les -Dames and about 27 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, in a valley between the hills of Bois du Raz and Framont.

The area of ​​5.65 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The central part of the region occupied by a depression, which is an average 360 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. Flanked the valley on its south-east side of the heights of Framont, in the north- west by the ridge of the Bois du Raz, at 478 meters the highest point reached by Fontenotte on. To the west, extends the communal land on the densely wooded hollow of the Bois de Cambolard (350 m) up to the height of the adjacent Bois du Grand Val ( 420 m). In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Fontenotte are Tournans and Verne in the north, Luxiol in the east, Baume- les -Dames in the south and La Bretenière in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Fontenotte belonged to the dominion of Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001 Fontenotte part of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Attractions

The place is characterized by different characteristic farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th century which are today partly renovated and serve as second homes.

Population

With 57 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Fontenotte is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 97 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fontenotte was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Luxiol to La Bretenière. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 7 km. Another road connection with Baume- les -Dames.
