Voillans

Voillans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Voillans is located on 390 m, 6 km northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 34 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, in a depression on the southern edge of the plateau Les Mondrevaux.

The area of ​​10:12 km ² municipal area includes a section on the edge of the extreme north-western mountain ranges of the Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the rolling countryside of a high plateau, which is an average of 420 meters. It consisted mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas. The only above-ground river is the Ruisseau de la Chenevière, which rises west of the village and a few 100 meters east seeps away again. History

Is first mentioned Voillans in 1173 under the name Vaylans. The place name probably derives from the Germanic personal name Walo. In the Middle Ages Voillans belonged to the field of rule of Baume- les -Dames. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. After that it was the site of a high court. In the 19th century, iron ore was mined at Voillans that has been processed in Clerval. Since 2001 Voillans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Nativity was built from 1767 to 1772, with the Gothic portal of the previous building was included. From the 18th-century Château, a former seat of power comes from.

Population

With 208 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Voillans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs.
