Montivernage

Montivernage is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montivernage is located on 480 m, 6 km southeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 31 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, almost 200 meters above the valley floor of the Cusancin on the northern edge of a high plateau.

The area of ​​3.34 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau which extends between the valley of Cusancin and the ridges of Grand Bois, is on average 480 m and is slightly wavy. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. South of the village there is the cave Grotte des Orcières. With 541 m is reached on a knoll on the high plateau, the highest point of Montivernage. The northern boundary runs along the steep hillside that slopes down to Cusancin and is marked at various locations of rocky outcrops.

Neighboring communities of Montivernage are Cusance in the north, Lanans in the east, and Vaudrivillers Passavant in the south and Guillon -les- Bains in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Montivernage belonged to the rule Cusance. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 26 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montivernage is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 101 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Montivernage was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Guillon -les- Bains in Cusancin Valley. Further road links exist with Passavant and Lanans.
