France national basketball team

The French national basketball team of the Lords is the choice of basketball players of the French Basketball Federation FFBB (Fédération Française de Basket- ball). She represents France in international tournaments or friendly matches.

History

After its founding in 1933, the French national team took both the first European Championships in 1935, as well as the 1936 Olympic Games in part. The time until the end of the 1950s was one of the more successful years of the French team. Thus, the French won at this time five medals at the European Championships. Another major achievement of this period was the second place at the Olympic Games in 1948.

The following decades were for the French less glorious. By the end of the 1990s succeeded in only one team qualifying for the World Cup in 1963 and the Olympics in 1984. Too, at the European Championships, the team played a subordinate role.

A turnaround was the year 1999 when the team with players such as Antoine Rigaudeau, Laurent Sciarra, Jim Bilba first to fourth place in the European Championship in 1999 and then at the Olympic Games in 2000 won the silver medal. The following tournaments after this success, more and more NBA players were part of the French national team. A prominent place among them is occupied by the three-time NBA champion Tony Parker. Under his leadership, first the French succeeded in the 2005 European Championship to win a bronze medal. At Euro 2011, the french team won the silver medal.

At Euro 2013, the French started though with a surprising defeat by Germany, increased in the course of the tournament but clear and could ultimately be the first time European Champion by winning the final against Lithuania.
