Francis Condon

Francis Bernard Condon ( born November 11, 1891 in Central Falls, Rhode Iceland, † November 23, 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1930 and 1933 he represented the third and 1933-1935 the first electoral district of the State of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Francis Condon attended the common schools and then studied until 1916 at Georgetown University in Washington law. After his were made in the same year admitted to the bar he began in Pawtucket to work in his new profession. Between May 1918 and June 1919 he was a soldier in the U.S. Army during the final stages of the First World War.

Politically, Condon was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1921 and 1926 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland. From 1923 he was there faction leader of the Democratic deputies. From 1924 to 1926, and again 1928-1930 he was on the board of his party in Rhode Iceland. In 1928 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of lieutenant-governor of his home state. In 1927 and 1928 he was the head of the veterans organization American Legion in Rhode Iceland.

Following the resignation of Congressman Jeremiah E. O'Connell Condon was selected in the third district of Rhode Iceland to his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he represented between November 4, 1930 and the March 3, 1933 that constituency, which was then abolished. For this reason, Condon was a candidate in 1932 successfully in the first constituency. So that he could take over the hitherto exercised by the Republican Clark Burdick mandate on March 4, 1933. In the 1934 elections, he was appointed in this position.

After Francis Condon was appointed associate judge on the Supreme Court of his State, he put on January 10, 1935, one week after the start of the new term, its mandate in Congress down. After the election due to be seat fell to the Republicans Charles Risk. Condon remained until January 7, 1958 as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of Rhode Iceland. Then he was appointed as its chairman judges ( Chief Justice ). This office he held until his death in November 1965.
