Friedrich Wilhelm Hackländer

Friedrich Wilhelm Hackländer ( born 1 November 1816 in Burtscheid, † July 6, 1877 in Leoni ) was a German writer.

Life

Hackländer was on November 1, 1816 in Burtscheid, now a part of Aachen, born, grew up orphaned early in poor conditions with various relatives and was stuck with 14 years in an unsatisfactory for him commercial apprenticeship. It drew him much to the military and so he joined with 16 in the 7th Artillery Brigade in Dusseldorf, but where he could not make a big career.

Finally, he began to write down his experiences and adventures, and he became a successful writer. His humorous and realistic style quickly made him popular and in the mid- 19th century, he was one of the most widely read writers in Germany. His grave is in Stuttgart on the Prague cemetery. Arno Schmidt has the hitherto largely forgotten Hackländer in his novel Evening with Gold Edge (1975 ) erected a monument: Once a figure of Hackländer - enthusiastic majors Eugen Fohrbach, but especially in a conversation about Hackländer in Figure 8 ( in the original edition of pages 28-35 ) of the novel.

Style
