Galanta District

The Okres Galánta ( German Gallandau district ) is an administrative region in western Slovakia with 94 936 inhabitants (2004, 2001, there were 94 533, of which 56 213 ( 59.5 %), Slovak and 36 518 ( 38.6 %) Hungarian) and an area of 641 km ².

The district is bounded on the east by the Waag and the south by the Little Danube in the Danube plain ( Podunajská rovina ). In the north include the districts of Trnava and Hlohovec at, in the east on a short piece of the district Nitra and Šaľa in Nitriansky kraj, in the south of the district Dunajská Streda and east of the District Senec kraj in Bratislavskı.

Historically, it was mostly in the former county Pressburg ( west), a smaller part in the east part of the former county Neutra (see also List of historic counties of Hungary ).
