Gambsheim

Gambsheim is a commune with 4571 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. The municipality is crossed by the railway Strasbourg- Lauterbourg. There is a train station.

The biggest feature of the village is the barrage Gambsheim, at which the largest locks in the navigable inland waterways of France are. At the height of the locks also the Centre d' Alerte Rhénan d' information Nautique de Gambsheim is (short CARING; German about: Gambsheim Rhine Alarm für Nautical information ), a French emergency and information center for Navigation on the Rhine; the registration office so that perceives tasks similar to the German traffic center for inland navigation in Oberwesel. At the crossing of the Rhine there is a visitor center. Here the fish ladder and the fish can be considered in overcoming the dam through glass windows.
