García Sánchez of Castile

García Sánchez ( * 1009, † May 13, 1029 ) was from 1017 to 1029 Count of Castile.

Life

García was the son of Sancho García, Count of Castile. He followed in 1017 after the death of his father as Count of Castile. As a minor, his mother Urraca was regent until 1025. Had a great influence on the government his brother King Sancho III. of Navarre, who was married to Garcia's older sister Munia Mayor. García was murdered in 1029 in León, where he was to marry the Infanta Sancha. He was buried in the monastery of San Salvador de Oña, which his father had founded in 1011. In the county of Castile he was followed by his sister Munia Mayor and whose husband Sancho III. of Navarre.

Family

Sancho was with Sancha of León (* 1013, † 1067), daughter of King Alfonso V betrothed. Sancha married in 1032 Ferdinand, son of Sancho III. of Navarre and Munia Mayor, who was King of Castile in 1035.
