Geographical Location

Gars am Inn is located in Southeast Upper Bavaria in the foothills of the Alps in the river valley of the Inn about 13 km south-west of Waldkraiburg, 19 km north of Wasserburg, 8 km east of Hague, 58 km east of the city of Munich and 26 km from the district town of Mühldorf. Gars am Inn has a station on the railway line Rosenheim - Mühldorf, which is operated by the SüdostBayernBahn.

Scenic influential is the deep incision of the Inn Valley. This results mainly from the northern edge of delightful views of the Chiemgau and the Alps, for example, on the road to the monastery of Reichertsheim Au, overcome their serpentine to almost two kilometers more than 150 meters.

History

The monastery was Gars by Duke Tassilo III. founded by Bavaria 768 as ' Cella Garoz '. Gars am Inn was under the rule of the country archbishopric of Salzburg and had been in the 12th century market rights. The place was a closed Hofmark in Etters. The high court was, however, the Electorate of Bavaria. 1803 the market came in the wake of secularization in Bavaria for later Kingdom of Bavaria. With the opening of the railway line Rosenheim - Mühldorf Gars received on May 1, 1876 following the railway network. While the place Gars north of the Inn is located, railway line and station originated south of the Inn. To the southeast, thus outside the village of Gars railway station was the district of " Gars railway station ".

2013, their 50 year partnership with the Austrian town of Gars am Kamp is officially sealed with a twinning.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1967, the market Gars (from March 9, 1956, the new community name for Stadel ) closed the Inn with the community Klostergars to the new market town of Gars am Inn together. This was merged with effect from 1 April 1971 with the communities Au am Inn, Lengmoos and Mittergars merged to Gars am Inn.

Abbey

The monastery church is a creation of the Grisons architect Giovanni Gaspare Zuccalli and Domenico Cristoforo Zuccalli and one of the earliest Baroque churches in Old Bavaria.

Redemptoristenkloster

1899 opened the Redemptorists in Gars a lnn a religious school. Father Kaspar Stangassinger was appointed at the age of 28 years and seminar director. But he was able to keep the students only begin school the retreat. A few days later he died of appendicitis. On April 24, 1988 he was beatified by Pope John Paul II.

Lived in Gars monastery and worked from 1871 until his death in 1930, the famous painter Max Schmalzl monk, who is also called the Bavarian Fra Angelico.

Innwerk settlement

1938/39, built in factory housing for company employees of Innwerks. Twelve small settlers points ( along the access road to the dam ). Virtually unchanged preserved ensemble Nazi Kleinsiedlungsbaues (For details: Innwerk settlement ).

Economy, agriculture and forestry

There were 2010 in the field of Agriculture and Forestry 5, in the manufacturing sector and 230 in the trade and transport 117 persons work at the workplace.
