Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group

The publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH ( GvH ) is the holding company since 1971. It is one of the largest media companies in Germany with a global presence. Shareholder of the publishing group are siblings Stefan von Holtzbrinck and Monika Schoeller.

History

Beginning as a magazine and book advertising company in 1931

The foundation stone of the publishing group was operated by Georg von Holtzbrinck already since 1931, building a magazine and book advertising business. Its success enabled him in 1936 to the acquisition of the German publishing Expedition ( Devex ) who completed a contract with the German Labor Front ( DAF). His NSDAP membership since 1933 and relations of a relative to the private firm Hitler were doing useful. Start-ups and expansions after 1945

In July 2007, the Internet subsidiary Holtzbrinck eLab GmbH bought the Internet portals Netdoktor.de and Golem.de the Story in New Window group of the German newspaper Holding BV. Previously Helpster.de had already been acquired. In the same year Holtzbrinck involved over Holtzbrinck Ventures also to the Startup TopTarif Internet GmbH, an online comparison site for gas, electricity and motor vehicles.

Also in 2007 was epubli.de founded a subsidiary with or epubli and entered in the Commercial Register of Berlin, which occurs as a service for self-published media or as a self-publishing platform. This company offers, electronically transmitted Complete Book lyrics for the self-published as a print -on-demand, as an e -book or publish directly online. Restructuring in 2009

On June 1, 2009, there was within the publishing group to a major restructuring. Dieter von Holtzbrinck, until then one of the three involved in each case with one-third of the GvH shareholder, sold his shares to the two other shareholders, Stefan von Holtzbrinck and Monika Schoeller. In return, Dieter von Holtzbrinck acquired several subsidiaries of GvH, especially from the newspaper sector, and bundled them into a new private company, Dieter von Holtzbrinck GmbH Media ( DvH media). These include:

  • The Tagesspiegel Group
  • The Handelsblatt publishing group, with the exception of three small publishers in the subgroup Handelsblatt publishing house that do not produce newspapers: the publisher of the journal Food practice book publisher Poeschel and language Publisher Spotlight
  • 50 percent of the time publishing ( weekly newspaper Die Zeit ) and its operational management. The other 50 % will remain with the GvH.
