Gerald Emmett Carter
Gerald Emmett Cardinal Carter, CC ( * March 1, 1912 in Montreal, Canada; † 6 April 2003 in Toronto ) was Archbishop of Toronto.
Life
Gerald Emmett Carter studied and graduated from the University of Montreal. On May 22, 1937 he was ordained priest. In 1939 he became the first Director of the English Section at the École Normale Jacques- Cartier. From 1942-196 Carter chaplain for the Catholic students of McGill University.
On December 1, 1961, he was named by Pope John XXIII. Titular Bishop of Altiburus and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of London in Ontario, Canada.
