Gerasimos Arsenis

Gerasimos Arsenis Dionysiou (Greek Γεράσιμος Αρσένης, * May 30, 1931 in Argostoli, Kefalonia) is a Greek politician.

Biography

Arsenis, a member of the PASOK, was appointed on 5 July 1982 by Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, Minister for Economic Affairs in the first cabinet and took over on March 27, 1984 also Minister of Finance. These offices he held in the subsequent second Papandreou government until July 26, 1985. Successor as Minister of Economics was Konstantinos Simitis, while the Ministry of Finance by Dimitrios Tsovolas was taken.

Between 1993 and 1996, he was then defense minister in Papandreou's third cabinet and held that office in September 1996 to the present government of Prime Minister Konstantinos Simitis.

In the second cabinet of Simitis he was between September 1996 and 2000 Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs.

Angelis is married to the politician Louka Katseli who until June 2011 was Minister of Economy, Competitiveness and Mercantile Marine in the government of George Papandreou of October 2009.
