Géza Nagy

Géza Nagy ( born December 29, 1892 in Sátoraljaújhely; † August 13, 1953 in Kaposvar ) was a Hungarian chess player.

Life

Géza Nagy was a doctor and worked in the General District Hospital of Kaposvar as medical director. On September 13, 2008, he received a plaque was unveiled in honor in Kaposvar. The occasion was the 80th anniversary of its participation in the second win of the Hungarian team at a Chess Olympiad.

Achievements

In 1924 he won the Hungarian Championship and the International Master Tournament in Győr before Dawid Przepiórka. 1927 in London and 1928 in The Hague, he took part with the Hungarian national team at the Chess Olympiad. Both manipulations Hungary could win the Olympics. 1927 at the very first Olympics, he achieved a score of 9.5 out of 14 and in 1928 a score of 11.5 out of 16

In 1950, with the introduction of the title by the World Chess Federation FIDE, he was awarded the title of International Master.

His best historical Elo rating was 2585th This he reached in January 1925 as 21st in the world rankings.
