Gints Meija

Gints Meija ( born September 4, 1987 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who stands since 2008 at Dinamo Riga in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Meija first played in his native town in Riga / Saga / LB in the U18 junior league Latvia. During the season 2004 /05 he moved within the League in the U18 team of SK Riga. Between 2005 and 2007 he took the U20 team of the same club, the SK LSPA / Riga was called, attended the Premjerlīga.

For the season 2007/ 08 he moved within the Premjerlīga for HK Riga 2000. With his new club Meija finished the IIHF Continental Cup 2007/ 08 the second place. In the summer of 2008, he got a contract with Dinamo Riga of the Kontinental Hockey League, but played mostly at HK Riga 2000 - this took in the season 2008/ 09 as Dinamo's farm team to the Belarusian Extraliga part. Since the 2009/10 season, he established part of the team Dinamo Riga, came in that season but also in the new farm team, the Dinamo- Juniors Riga, used.

Internationally

Meija played three times for Latvia at the Junior World Championships. He took part in the U18 World Youth Championship Division I in 2005, the Under-20 Junior World Cup in 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championship Division I in 2007. In the senior, he was nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where he was employed in four games. He also ran for Latvia at the World Championships in 2010 and 2011.
