Giovanni Balestra

Giovanni Balestra (* 1774 in Bassano, † 1842 in Rome ) was an Italian engraver.

Life

Balestra was a relative of the history painter Antonio Balestra. After first artistic education in the family, he became a pupil of Antonio Suntach. Balestra attended as a student, the Calcografia Remondini his native town.

With 29 years Balestra in 1803 went to Rome and settled there. As a copyist of the old masters, he specialized in fast on the works of Raphael. Balestra was also known for his engravings of the works of Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen.

At the age of 68 years died Giovanni Balestra 1842 in Rome.
