Ģirts Ankipāns

Ģirts Ankipāns ( born November 29, 1975 in Riga, Latvian SSR ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player. Since the end of his active career in 2013 he is at Dinamo Riga of the Continental Hockey League as an assistant coach under contract.

Career

Ģirts Ankipāns began his career in 1991 with Vendenieki before he went on the ice for the HK Essamika Ogre 1992-1995. This was followed by two and a half years at the Juniors Riga, before joining the Brown camp EHC to Germany. Other stations in the second and third division of Germany were the EHC Neuwied, the EC Timmendorfer beach, the EV Füssen and the EV Landshut.

Between 2003 and 2008 he played for the Latvian top club HK Riga 2000 in the Latvian Hockey League and was with this multiple Latvian champion. In the 2006/07 season he also played a few games for HC Dinamo Minsk in the Belarusian championship. For the season 2008/ 09 he joined Dinamo Riga from the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League and played for Dinamo until the middle of the season 2012/13. He then ended his career and was an assistant coach at Dinamo.

Internationally

Ģirts Ankipāns participated in several international tournaments for Latvia. In 1995 he took part with the U20 selection of his native country at the U20 World Championships Division II. In the senior level, he came at the World Championships in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2011 are used. He also was a member of the Latvian squad at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and Vancouver 2010.
