Gordon Brisker

Gordon Brisker ( born November 6, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † 10 September 2004 in Cincinnati ) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and flutist as well as high school teachers.

Brisker learned as a child, initially to play the piano and studied woodwind instruments at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He played with Ralph Marterie before he moved to the Berklee College of Music and graduated from California State University with a master. After that he worked among others at Al Belletto, Bill Berry, and finally in the Big Band of Woody Herman ( 1960-63 ), he moved to New York City where he played with Louie Bellson and Gerry Mulligan. After a short time in his hometown of Cincinnati Brisker moved to Los Angeles, where he mainly worked as a studio musician. Between 1983 and 1986 Brisker at the Berklee College of Music; During this time he arranged for Herb Pomeroy. He then returned to Los Angeles and worked with Bobby Shew.

Around 1990 he accompanied the singer Anita O'Day (At Vine Street Live ); In 1998, the singer Gail Wynters (My Shining Hour ). 1996 seemed to be on the album The Gift Label Naxos Jazz with Tim Hagans, Marc Copland, Jay Anderson and Jeff Hirshfield; Followed in 2000 with the album My Son John Hagans, Mike Nock, Anthony Cox and Billy Hart. In the 1990s Brisker moved to Australia and taught from 1995 to 2001 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
