Grasslands-Nationalpark

The Grasslands National Park (English Grasslands National Park, French Parc national des Prairies ) one of the newest national parks in Canada ( founded in 1981 ) in the south of the province of Saskatchewan, along the border with the U.S. state of Montana. It covers an area of 907 km ².

It consists in two areas, a large western, and a smaller eastern block of a wide prairie landscape. In 1874, the first dinosaur fossils were discovered here in Canada by Sir George Mercer Dawson. Here in 2006, the American Bison was resettled.

October 2009 were 527 km ² of the park as a Dark Sky Preserve ( light protected area, Grasslands Dark Sky Preserve ) were reported.
