Great Lengden is the northernmost district of the municipality in the district of Göttingen peers and has 987 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2010).

Location

Great Lengden located on the southeastern slope of the Göttingen Forest, the steep falls away to the valley of Bramke. Together with the little southerly Rich Hausen it is the northernmost district of the municipality. Southwest joins the district of retail Lengden; the southeast lies Niedeck settlement with Forest House and domain belongs to the district of Great Lengden. To the north are larger parts of the Göttingen forest in the United Lengdener district, the hinanreicht to Kerst Linger The desolate field and up to 500 meters at the Mack Röder tip. North of the village stands on the horses crib, further north is the 425 meter high Staneberg the highest elevation. East of the village beyond the Bramke include the 385 -meter high Kronenberg with a ruined castle, north of that of Hengstenberg to district. Southeast of the United Lengden rises the 315.5 -meter-high Kahlenberg in Reinhäuser forest.

Place name

History

The timing of the local foundation is unknown, as in most places in the region. The first written mention of a place or Lengithi Lengidi is ascribed to the year 822 and is found in the Codex Eberhardi the monastery of Fulda. According to legend, were once sacrificed on the Hengstenberg white horses. First indications of the two places of the name Lengden find themselves in a the year 1022 ascribed certificate.

In the course of municipal reform United Lengden was on 1 January 1973 a district of the newly formed community peers.
