Groß Mohrdorf

Great Mohrdorf is a municipality in the district north-west of Stralsund Vorpommern - Rügen. The community is managed by the Office Altenpleen based in the community Altenpleen.

Geography and transport

Great Moor village is located about 15 km northwest of Stralsund and about 20 km east of Barth. The district is located on the Nisdorf Grabow, a part of the Barth Bodden. The municipality is located in the northernmost corner of the mainland of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The northeastern part of the municipality is part of the National Park Boddenlandscape. The island of Bock and the Big Werder Peninsula belong to the municipality. The highest point in the municipality is in excess of 22 m above sea level. NHN. Larger woodlands of other agriculturally -dominated municipality located in jawed Hagen and on the island of Bock.

Disused airfield

To the west of Great Mohrdorf is a disused airfield. A beacon of this former airfield was converted into a DGPS reference station United Mohrdorf.

History

Great Moor village was first mentioned as " Murdorp " or " Mordorp " in 1314. After belonging to the Principality of Rügen Mohrdorf fell in 1326 to the Duchy of Pomerania.

After the Thirty Years War to the year 1815, the area belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania. Towards the end of the 17th century Mohrdorf was divided into large and small Mohrdorf.

At the beginning of the 14th century Hermanus de Turri sold the place to the Öbelitz family. In the following centuries many Stralsund followed councilor families, until it came to the family of Brown in 1626. 1737 to 1945 the manor the Count of Klot - Traut cousin.

The congregation was then until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Stralsund in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Great Mohrdorf part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.
