Sehlen

Sehlen is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The community is managed by the Office Bergen auf Rügen, located in the eponymous city.

Geography

The community Sehlen is about five kilometers south of mountains in the central Muttland the middle of a ground moraine on Rügen. North of the village are larger forest areas.

History

The municipality was part of the Principality of Rügen to 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Sehlen a part of Swedish Pomerania. In 1815 Sehlen came as part of Neuvorpommern the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Since 1818, the village belonged to the circle or district Rügen. Only in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county Putbus belonging. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

Sehlen was in 1298 for the first time, (green from the Slavic Zeleny =) as " Zele ". As an independent place Sehlen is probably originated in the 15th century. The place was in 1471 in possession of Erik Barnekow and remained until the 19th century, owned by the family of Barnekow, which had a few huts surrounded by residential courtyard there. In 1820 the estate was allodifiziert ( split ) and a 1835 again received brickyard was created in 1817 on the field mark the place.

The district small Kubbelkow is first mentioned in 1314 as " Cublikowe "; At this time, probably in combination with large Kubbelkow. Good place and belonged since the 14th century until 1945 the Rügen widespread family of Barnekow. The old manor house was removed in 1963. The new manor house, cottage- style was built in 1908 as historicizing timbered building and now houses a restaurant. Noteworthy is the 4 -hectare park surrounding it had been remodeled 1820-1830 by a small baroque park in a larger English landscape park.

Traffic

The Federal Highway 96 and the railroad Stralsund - Sassnitz pass right through the district Teschenhagen.
