Großkarlbach

Großkarlbach is a municipality in the Palatine district of Bad Durkheim, who belongs to the municipality green town and country. The village is located about 15 km north- west of Ludwigshafen on the edge of European Metropolitan Region Rhine -Neckar and is a state- recognized tourist destination.

Geography and Geology

Großkarlbach is located near the western edge of the Rhine Valley and is drained by the Corner Brook. To the west is the hilltop of the former sub- Haardt ¹) rise, which belongs to the new wine-growing region Mittelhaardt - German Wine Road since the 1970s. Neighboring towns are (from north clockwise) Laumersheim, Gerolsheim, way home on the sand, and Freinsheim Bissersheim. The place Kleinkarlbach is, however, 6 km to the west on the slopes of Leininger spur.

History

Großkarlbach was already 768 mentioned in the Lorsch codex as Carlo Bach. The name comes from the name of the Free Karle village and the location at Corner Brook. Since the place lay in the border area between the Palatinate and the territory of the Earl Leininger, it was these two dynasties that marked Great Karl Bach's history.

Until 1969 the town belonged to the then defunct county Frankenthal and then moved to the newly created district of Bad Durkheim. Three years later, the assignment to the new community association also green town and country.

In Großkarlbach still exist six of the seven former mills. Eckbachabwärts are: mill on the pond, castle mill, Rhine mill village mill, mill poplar and Heckenmühle.
