Name

Etymology

The name Großwallstadt is composed of the Old High German words Walah for novels and stat for home together. As an explanation it follows abode of novels. The name affixes temporarily used large and king and the Lateinisierten differentiations maiori, major, maior ( the larger ), Regis ( the King ), trans morgum ( on the Main) and ex ista parte Mogi (of this Main part ) should distinguish it from Kleinwallstadt. The addition king refers to the basic rule of the king.

History

As part of the Archbishopric of Mainz upper Great Wall city fell in the secularisation of 1803 to the newly formed Principality of Aschaffenburg, with which it passed in 1814 (now a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt ) fell to Bavaria.

Sports

The 1888 TV Großwallstadt was until 2013 the only Bavarian representative in the handball league of gentlemen. The club was from 1978 to 1981, 1984 and 1990 six times German champion.

Curiosities

Potato " haas and goose " was not a festive feast. Too hot and whole potatoes were eaten Käs mat ( Quark ). As this Court also in Großwallstadt was often on the menu, they were in their nickname ( Ortsnecknamen ) derided as " Matteköpp ".
