Gustav Hellmann

Gustav Johannes Georg Hellmann ( born July 3, 1854 in Leuven, Silesia, † February 21, 1939 in Berlin) was a German meteorologist and climatologist.

Hellmann was 1882-1885 Interim Director of the Prussian Meteorological Institute in Berlin. In 1886 he became Professor and Head of the Department climatology of the Institute, whose director he was finally 1907-1922. He introduced new instruments, including the rainfall determination the Hellmann rain gauge, in a climate research. From 1892 to 1907 he was with Julius von Hann editor of the Meteorological Journal. The donated to his 75th birthday in 1929, Hellmann Medal was named in his honor.
