Haldor Boen

Haldor Erickson Boen ( born January 2, 1851 in Sør- Aurdal, Valdres, Norway, † July 23, 1912 in Aurdal Township, Minnesota ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1868 Haldor Boen came to the United States, where he settled in Mower County, Minnesota. In the years 1869 and 1870 he attended the St. Cloud Normal School. He then moved to the vicinity of Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County. Since 1872 he was employed as a tax official of the auditor of this district. Between 1874 and 1879 he taught there as a teacher. From 1875 to 1900 Boen also practiced from the office of justice of the peace. In 1880 he was District ( County Commissioner). In the years 1888-1892 he was a land registry official in his district.

Politically Boen was a member of the short-lived Populist Party. In the congressional elections of 1892 he was in the then newly- seventh constituency of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1893 to his new mandate. Since he lost to Republican Frank Eddy in the elections of 1894, Boen was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1895.

After his time in the U.S. Repräsentantehnhaus Boen was editor of the newspaper " Fergus Falls Globe". He also worked in Otter Tail County in agriculture. Haldor Boen died on 23 July 1912 in Aurdal township near Fergus Falls.
