Henry Poehler

Henry Poehler (born 22 August 1833 in Hiddesen, lip, † July 18, 1912 in Henderson, Minnesota ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the state of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born on the territory of the German Federal Henry Poehler was first taught by his father, who ran a school. In 1848 he emigrated to the United States. He settled first in Burlington ( Iowa), where he attended the public schools. About Saint Paul, he came in 1854 to Henderson in Minnesota Territory. He was particularly active in the grain trade. Between 1856 and 1861 he was postmaster in his new hometown. At that time he also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party.

In the years 1857, 1858 and 1865, he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Minnesota. Between 1865 and 1868 he was a member and chairman of the District Council of Sibley County. From 1872-1873 and again 1876-1877 Poehler was a member of the Minnesota Senate. In the congressional elections of 1878 he was in the second electoral district of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Horace B. Strait on March 4, 1879. Since he lost to Strait in the elections of 1880, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1881.

After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Poehler applied unsuccessfully for the post of Finance Minister of Minnesota. But he was elected several times as mayor of Henderson. In 1889, he moved to Minneapolis, where he continued to operate in commercial transactions. His focus was on the grain trade. Since 1895 Poehler lived in Los Angeles. He died on July 18, 1912 during a visit to Henderson.
