Heinrich Dressel

Heinrich Dressel ( born June 16, 1845 in Rome, † July 17, 1920 in Teisendorf ) was a German epigraphists and numismatists.

Dressel was a student of Theodor Mommsen and initially mainly active in the field of epigraphy. Since 1885 he worked at the Berlin Coin Cabinet, 1886, he was Direktorialassistent, from 1898 to 1919 he was, together with Julius Menadier its director. On April 24, 1902 he became a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences, from 1902 to 1911 he was head of the Greek Münzwerks the Academy.

In Heinrich Dressel and his work for the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum the designation of numerous Amphorenformen the Roman Empire is falling. He worked on the city of Roman inscriptions, including numerous small inscriptions on amphorae from Monte Testaccio.
