Henry Källgren

Henry Källgren ( born March 13, 1931 in Norrköping, † January 21, 2005 in Helsingborg ) was a Swedish football player. In the 1958 World Cup, the striker was one of the team that was runner-up world champion.

Career

Källgren played 1951-1959 for IFK Norrköping in Allsvenskan. On the side of players like Bengt Gustavsson, Gösta Nordahl and Torsten Lindberg he won in the season 1951/52, the von Rosen's Cup for the Swedish national champion. As a regular scorer he was in the following years to the guarantors who established the club in the front league area. Subsequently, he was appointed the first time in the national team in the fall of 1953. In the 2-2 draw against the Hungarian national team on November 15th of the year in Budapest, the last international match of the Golden Team before their historic 6-3 victory over England ten days later, he crowned his debut with his first international goal. Still, he could not play firmly in the selection itself.

With the team to Bengt Nyholm, Sven Åke Johansson Källgren Axbom and won his second championship in the season 1955/56. With the new Harry Image pledged he made in the following year, the prolific Zentralstürmerduo, which led the club to repeat the previous year's triumph with 19 respectively 18 goals this season. In the season 1957/58 he was crowned with 27 goals this season along with Bertil Johansson scorer in Allsvenskan. Consequently, he was part of the squad at the World Cup finals tournament in their own country. As a substitute for the current and former foreign professionals to Agne Simonsson, Kurt Hamrin, Nils Liedholm and Gunnar Gren he sat mostly on the substitutes' bench. In the 0-0 draw at the end of the preliminary round against Wales, he played his only finals game.

With 126 Erstligatoren Källgren is the best scorer in the club's history. For the national team, he played 1953-1958 eight matches in which he achieved a total of eight goals.
