Henry Marie Brackenridge

Henry Marie Brackenridge ( born May 11, 1786 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † January 18, 1871 ) was an American politician. In the years 1840 and 1841 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Brackenridge was the son of the poet Hugh Henry Brackenridge ( 1748-1816 ). He was taught by his father and a private tutor. After he graduated from the French Academy in today's Missouri. After a subsequent law degree in 1806 and its recent approval as a lawyer he worked until 1810 in Somerset in this profession. He then moved for a short time to St. Louis, where he also practiced law. In 1811 he was appointed Deputy Attorney General in the Orleans Territory. A year later, he was district judge for Louisiana. In 1817, Brackenridge was secretary of an American mission to South America. He later published a book also on this trip and his impressions. In 1821 he worked for Andrew Jackson, who was then governor of the Florida territory. He became a judge in the western part of this area through its influence. This post he held 1821-1832.
