High Water (El-P album)

High Water is a jazz fusion album of the American hip-hop producer El -P. The album was produced in collaboration with Matthew Shipp led by jazz group The Blue Series Continuum and was released in March 2004 on the label Thirsty Ear Recordings.

Formation

After the jazz pianist Matthew Shipp had heard the 2002 released album Fantastic Damage by El- P, he suggested, offer to produce an album together. El -P agreed, and the work on High Water began in 2003 El -P raps not on the album, it is at high water to his second instrumental album to Little Johnny from the Hospitul. Breaks and Instrumentals, Vol 1 El- P produced loose song structures over the improvisational musicians of The Blue Series Continuum. In the song When the Moon was Blue the only feature guest El- P's father Harry Keys, also jazz musicians can be heard.

In addition to El -P, Matthew Shipp and Harry Keys following musicians worked on the album: William Parker, Guillermo E. Brown, Daniel Carter, Steve Swell and Roy Campbell, Jr.

The song Intrigue in the House of India published El -P is also on his 2004 mixtape Collecting the Kid, there on some pressings under the name Time is Running Out.

Pitchfork awarded 7.2 out of 10 possible points and wrote:
