Honeoye Lake

Honeoye Lake is a 717 acre lake in Ontario County of the U.S. state of New York.

The lake is one of the Finger Lakes, a group of lakes in western New York, which originated as a moraine at the end of the last ice age.

" Honeoye " is a word of the Iroquois with the following meaning: " a lying finger " or " where the finger lies ."

The majority of the lake is located in the Town of Richmond, a smaller portion in the southwest part of Canadice. The Hamlet of Honeoye is located north of the lake.

The Honeoye Lake is the second smallest lake in the Finger Lakes and is located west of the main lakes. To the west lie the other smaller lakes in the Lakes Group: Canadice Lake, Hemlock Lake and Conesus Lake.

The lake is at 245 m height. He has a major expansion in North-South direction of 7.2 km, a width of 1.3 km. Its effluent is the Honeoye Creek. This leaves the lake at its northern end and the Genesee River flows to. At the southern end of the lake the Honeoye Inlet opens out as the most important tributary in the Honeoye Lake.

The Honeoye Lake Park Association administers a large part of the summer cottages as well as a number of year-round residential accommodation ( Times-Union Tract ) on the eastern shore of the lake.

Caught from the lake in edible fish include walleye, perch and American Bluegill sunfish ( Lepomis macrochirus ). The "Ring of Fire" tradition is celebrated annually on Labor Day weekend. Bengal fire and ignited along the lakeshore.

During the winter the lake is frozen. Then, leisure offers activities such as ice fishing, ice skating and ice sailing.

On the east bank near the south end of Honeoye Lake is the Honeoye Lake Boat Launch State Park. This is open from May to November.
