Hubert von Luschka

Hubert von Luschka (* July 27 1820 in Konstanz, † March 1, 1875 in Tübingen ) was a German anatomist.

Life

Hubert von Luschka dealt first with pharmacy, studied medicine in 1841 at the University of Freiburg, 1843/1844 at the University of Heidelberg. He made his state examination in 1844 in Karlsruhe, his practice time he graduated in Meersburg. In 1845 he received his doctorate in Freiburg.

He graduated as an assistant at Georg Friedrich Louis Stromeyer (1804-1876), undertook research trips to Paris, Venice and Northern Italy and worked as a doctor in his hometown Konstanz tätig.1849 he was appointed as associate professor of anatomy at the University of Tübingen. As the successor of Friedrich Arnold (1803-1890), who moved to Heidelberg, he became in 1852 professor of anatomy and pathology, from 1855 professor of pathology and director of the Institute of Anatomy. He remained in this position until his death in 1875. His successor was William Henke ( 1834-1896 ).

Work

Luschka was one of the most renowned anatomists of the 19th century. He conducted research on almost all areas of the human body and has published numerous scientific papers. Hubert von Luschka published 1862-1869 in H. Laupp'schen bookshop in Heidelberg one with numerous woodcuts very elaborate anatomy of man in regard to the needs of practical medicine.

His name today still bear some anatomical structures, such as a discharge of a cerebral ventricle and the Luschka'sche gear.
