Hwang Kyung-seon

Hwang Kyung- seon (Korean 황경선; born May 21, 1986) is a South Korean Taekwondo. She was awarded two medals in the Olympic Games and win three world championships in the middleweight division.

Hwang starts at international competitions since 2002. At the Junior Asia Cup in 2003 in Ho Chi Minh City, she won in the category up to 63 kilograms their first title. She qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. After a defeat in the quarter-finals they won over the repechage bronze medal. In the following years, Hwang dominated the international title fights at middleweight. She won at the World Championships 2005 in Madrid and 2007 in Beijing each the title, in the final she beat both times Gwladys Épangue. Also at the Asian Games 2006 in Doha, she was successful in the Asia Cup 2006 in Bangkok, they also won silver. Hwang took the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games at their second part. They reached the finals where they nearly beat Karine Sergerie and first Olympic champion was.

After the Games, she took a long break from Hwang Tae Kwon Do. It was not until the 2011 World Championships in Gyeongju, she returned to the international stage. She won bronze with another World Championship medal after she reached the semifinals, but retired there against Sarah Stevenson. In the Asia Cup 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City won Hwang silver. She could team internally prevail in qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London against Kim Mi- kyung and thus ensure their third Olympic participation. In London, she managed to repeat the Olympic victory, being the only Turk Tatar defeated in the final with 12:5 points.
