Icogne

Icogne is a municipality in the district of Sierre in the French speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

In order to supply water to the community of the small artificial lake Lac d' Icogne serves. The municipality belongs to the holiday region of Crans -Montana.

Geography

Icogne lies in the valley of the Lienne and is bounded on the east by the Lens. In the northwest of the community is the Lac de Tseuzier, springs from the Lienne. In the northeast, the municipality's territory extends to the Wildstrubelmassif on the Plaine Morte Glacier.

Nachbergemeinden Icogne are in the north Lenk im Simmental (BE), in the northeast Randogne, to the east of Lens, in the south of Saint- Léonard and west Ayent.

History

The place was first mentioned in records in 1233 as Ucogni. The municipality was created in 1905 from part of the former parish of Lens.
