ICS Vortex

Simen Hestnæs ( born March 4, 1974 in Oslo), also known by his pseudonym ICS Vortex ( Simen Icy Vortex), is a Norwegian bass player and singer. He is or was a member of the band Borknagar, Arcturus and Dimmu Borgir.

Life

With seven years Hestnæs began to play the flute, but stopped after a year and received piano lessons from his grandmother. Later he decided to play the guitar and singing in a rock band. In 1991, he founded the band Lamented Souls, in which he played guitar and bass.

In 1997, he appeared at Arcturus. He sang the three songs "Master of Disguise ", " The Chaos Path" and "Painting My Horror" of the album La Masquerade Infernal together with the former singer of the band, Kristoffer " Garm " Rygg. In the same year the folk metal band Borknagar was looking for the exit of Rygg a singer, so Hestnæs for four years a member of the band was. The albums The Archaic Course (1998) and Quintessence (2000) were taken with him. In 1999 he recorded the album Spiritual Black Dimensions as a bass player and backing vocalist with Dimmu Borgir. He decided in 2000 to leave what Borknagar to be at Dimmu Borgir new full-time member as a bass player and singer.

In 2005, he was a regular singer in the band Arcturus, with whom he recorded the album Sideshow Symphonies published in the same year. On April 16, 2007 in Melbourne, he started the concert with "Welcome to the load of Arcturus show ever! " (Eng. " Welcome to the last show of Arcturus " ), the next day this statement was confirmed by the band. Four years later it came to live performances but a reunion.

Dimmu Borgir dismissed Hestnæs in 2009 and a year later he returned - first as a guest musician for Universal, then as a permanent member of Urd - to Borknagar back. In 2011, he also released his solo album Storm Seeker.

Hestnæs is married to Lise Myhre, the author of the comic strip Nemi, and has a son with her.
