Ilidža

Ilidža ( Serbian Cyrillic Илиџа ) is a municipality in the Bosnian Canton Sarajevo with about 72,000 inhabitants. The village lies at the foot of Mount Igman. Nearby there is also the International Sarajevo Airport. Originally the territory of the municipality belonging eastern part of Ilidža since the Bosnian war as Istočna Ilidža part of the city Istocno Sarajevo in the Republika Srpska.

In the field of community springs from a strong karstic spring ( Vrelo Bosne ) at the foot of Mount Igman the Bosna, which still unites in the municipality with the further south springing Željeznica to zuzufließen the north of the Sava.

The name comes from the Turkish language Ilidža ( Ilica ), meaning " natural hot spring, thermal baths". The town has many hot springs, which are rich in sulfur and minerals. Ilidža was a well known spa town since Roman times.

Ilidža is connected by tram to the city center of Sarajevo.
