India at the 1956 Summer Olympics
India participated in the Olympic Summer Games 1956 in Melbourne, Australia, part of a delegation of 59 athletes (58 men and one woman) in 32 competitions in eight sports. It was a medal ( gold) to be won. The youngest athlete was the football player Tulasidas Balaram (19 years and 359 days), the oldest athlete was the weightlifting Dandamudi Rajagopal (40 years and 42 days). It was the ninth participation of the country in the Olympic Summer Games. Standard-bearer was the hockey player Balbir Singh.
