Iowa Highway 149
The Iowa Highway 149 (short IA 149 ) is a state highway that runs from south to north in Iowa. It has a length of 67 miles ( 108 km).
The southern terminus of Iowa Highway 149 is in Ottumwa on U.S. Highway 34 The northern endpoint is in Williamsburg on Interstate 80
Route description
The Iowa Highway 149 begins at U.S. Highway 34 in Ottumwa. He leads north and true north of Ottumwa on U.S. Highway 63, he still heads north until it meets the Iowa Highway 23. He turns to the east and meets the Iowa Highway 21 before it crosses Hedrick. He continues eastwards through Martinsburg, but then turns to the north at an intersection with Iowa Highway 92 The Iowa State Highway 149 then continues north to Sigourney. After a short common route with the Iowa Highway 92, he turns north toward Webster. In Webster he meets the Iowa Highway 22 and turns to the east, where it has the same route to South English with him. Then the Iowa Highway 149 turns north again to North English continues north before turning east to cross Parnell. The Iowa Highway 149 then goes back further to the north, to pass through Williamsburg and then ends at an intersection with Interstate 80
History
The Iowa Highway 149 was born on 16 October 1926 a part of the former Iowa Highway 13 He went from U.S. Highway 63 north of Ottumwa on U.S. Highway 32 (later U.S. Highway 6 ) near the Amana Colonies. In March 1930, the highway was extended north to Cedar Rapids. In 1985, the highway was to its present northern end on U.S. Highway 151, which was extended along the former Iowa State Route 149 between U.S. Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 30, shortened, and the section between the I-80 and U.S. Highwaqy 6 was to Iowa County Road V77. The southern terminus was moved twice. On 16 July 1997, the Iowa Highway 149 went on an old Alignment of U.S. Highway 63 between today's U.S. Highway 63 intersection north of Ottumwa and today's Iowa State Route 23 intersection. Later, on 19 November 2007, the Iowa Highway was extended to the south to meet in Ottumwa on U.S. Highway 34.
